Briefs: Learn about radio technology

BATAVIA -- A program entitled Radio Frequency Identification: Past and Future, put on by the Association for Operations Management, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Long Island Sound, 1920, New York St., Aurora. Participants can register at www.apics-foxriver.org or e-mail a reservation to directoraccom@apics-foxriver.org by noon Monday. There is a fee. Participants should provide their name, company, and whether they are an APICS member, along with contact information. Radio frequency identification is performing a range of tasks, such as meeting Wal-Mart's compliance program to improved management of expensive hospital equipment.

OfficeMax names new COO

NAPERVILLE -- OfficeMax Friday announced Sam Martin will assume the role of executive vice president and chief operating officer effective Monday. Martin will have responsibility for all areas of retail, contract and supply chain. Martin, 51, served most recently as senior vice president of operations of Wild Oats Markets Inc. Prior to joining Wild Oats, from 2005 to 2006, Martin served as senior vice president of supply chain for ShopKo Stores Inc.
