Briefs: Curran to endorse Waller today

Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran, a Democrat, announced he will formally endorse the re-election bid of Lake County State's Attorney Michael Waller, a Republican, during a news conference set for 11 a.m. today in front of Curran's former law office in Waukegan. Curran was elected sheriff in 2006.

Health Care Speak-Out in Waukegan

Lake County Coroner Richard Keller, small business owner Davis Borris and residents and members of Citizen Action/Illinois will hold a "Health Care Speak-Out" for residents to voice their opinions and concerns for quality, affordable health care at 6 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Waukegan Public Library, 128 N. County St. The Health Care Speak-Out is part of the Health Care for America Now Campaign. Organizations and community leaders are coming together through 45 states to find a solution to provide quality, affordable health care for all Americans.

Boys invited to join Nutcracker production

Dancenter North is searching for boys ages 8 to 15 to join the cast of its 20th anniversary production of "The Magic of the Nutcracker." Auditions are 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28 at Dancenter North, 540 N. Milwaukee Ave., downtown Libertyville. No dance ability is required, but athleticism is a must. Participants are asked to bring a current headshot or school photo to the audition. Performances are Dec. 6 to 14 in Libertyville and Waukegan. For information, call (847) 367-7970.

Lake Zurich school hosts bullying program for parents

Lake Zurich Middle School South will host a free program on bullying open to all parents in the community at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16 at the school's west gym, 435 W. Cuba Road. Jim Jordan, author of "Plug the Tub" will be the program moderator. The first half of the program will elaborate on the student anti-bullying program Jordan will conduct earlier that day at Lake Zurich Middle School South. In the second half, parents will learn to reflect on how their parenting style affects their children's confidence and why it is important for children to speak up.
