One killed, two injured in crash near Sugar Grove

One person was killed and two others injured in a three-vehicle crash late Friday night near Sugar Grove, police said.

Jonathan P. Couch, 54, of Sugar Grove, died at a hospital after the crash, which occurred a little after 11 p.m. near Bliss and Seavey roads, the Kane County sheriff's office said in a news release.

A silver BMW X5 headed south on Bliss Road crossed the centerline in a no-passing zone while trying to pass a Dodge Caravan and hit a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck headed north, police said.

The BMW and the Silverado then hit the Caravan, police said.

Couch had been driving the Silverado. A passenger in his truck was critically injured and remained hospitalized Saturday.

The driver of the BMW, a Sugar Grove woman, also was injured and taken to a hospital. A test there revealed her blood alcohol level was .235, nearly three times the legal limit for drivers, police said.

Unspecified charges have been approved by the Kane County state's attorney's office but haven't yet been filed, Sheriff Ron Hain said. The accident is under investigation.
