Hoffman Estates mom-to-be wins a room from 'The View'

What's with the connection between Hoffman Estates and "The View," TV's infamous daytime gabfest?

Last year, Hoffman resident Sherri Shepherd joined the ABC morning show's gaggle of co-hosts.

Now comes word that on Wednesday, the village's own Bethany Barber heard her name on the air, announcing she'd won $25,000 to make over a room in her Hoffman Estates' home.

"I still can't believe it," Barber said.

Barber, 28, said she and her husband of four years, Scott, will spend the dough turning the spare bedroom in their two-bedroom townhouse into a nursery. She's 4½ months pregnant with a girl.

Barber is one of 16 winners of the "The View's and Kimberly-Clark's $25,000 Room-a-day Giveaway." The winners were selected randomly from online entries.

A new winner will be announced each day until Friday, and a final name will be revealed on March 14. Barber was the seventh award-winner named.

Shepherd announced Barber's name on the air, but the two do not know each other, Barber said. She's a second-grade teacher at Spencer Loomis Elementary School in Hawthorn Woods. Her check will arrive in about 12 weeks, she said.

"Direct deposit would be better," she said.

Barber's husband reluctantly watches "The View" every night with his wife, who records it daily. He's a financial adviser, already concerned about how much taxes they'll have to pay on the award money.

"I'll be an avid watcher from now on," said Scott Barber, 37. "For 25 grand, sign me up!"
