Fremd star ready to sing
The Mary Burke Show makes its way to Wrigley Field today.
The Fremd High School senior and gymnastic phenom will lead Cub Nation in singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the 7th-inning stretch, according to Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 spokesman Tom Petersen.
Burke thrilled crowds in February at the state gymnastics meet -- where her sister wore a shirt reading "I'm here for the Mary Burke Show" -- by winning her third all-around title in four years, placing first in all four individual events and leading Fremd to the team title.
Her all-around score was the highest for a Fremd Viking during a state championship. The school also has the most team titles in state history, earning three in Burke's four years.
The game against Milwaukee begins at 1:20 p.m.
