Get ready for Breast Fest in Antioch
She says the name has gotten a few laughs and only one dirty look so far. It's catchy, if nothing else.
American Cancer Society volunteer Caitlyn Pugliese is the organizer for Breast Fest. The benefit concert will be held in Antioch this Sunday.
"My girlfriends and I were just throwing titles out there and then one of them said, 'How about Breast Fest?'" Pugliese said. "We all loved it."
The fundraiser will feature eight local bands and will be held at The Brickhouse in Antioch. The shows start at 4 p.m.
This is Pugliese's third fundraising event. The 19-year-old College of Lake County student says that cancer is very common in her family, and wants to do something positive. "I really believe that if you help people, good things will come back," she said.
She'll contribute the money toward the upcoming Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk to be held on Oct. 19. Pugliese hopes to raise $3,000 by the end of the show.
An estimated 8,500 women in Illinois will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, according to the American Cancer Society. Of that, nearly 2,000 will die from the disease.
It turns out the event's name is not unique. "We Googled 'Breast Fest,'" Pugliese said. "Looks like we aren't the only ones with that idea."
