Girls donate lemonade stand proceeds to Northbrook Veterans Center

The "Lemonade Ladies" struck a chord with the Northbrook Veterans Center.

Seven girls who ran a lemonade stand on Cherry Lane during the Northbrook Memorial Day Parade May 29 donated the money they earned that day to the veterans group.

"This was the girls' idea to donate to the veterans and not their moms'. The moms thought it was a great and generous idea, so they contacted us," said parade Grand Marshal Rob Holt.

Holt is vice president and director of the Northbrook Veterans Center. He's also a past commander of Northbrook American Legion Post 791.

The Northbrook Veterans Center represents Northbrook American Legion Post 791, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10236, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Sons of the American Legion, and the American Legion Riders.

The girls, named "Lemonade Ladies" by the veterans, and their mothers showed up June 6 at the Veterans Center, 1354 Shermer Road, to donate their sale proceeds.

The veterans gave each of the girls American Legion coins inscribed with a message of thanks for their community service.
