High school seeks donations:

The school is requesting giveaway items such as T-shirts, gift certificates for meals, or products such as hats, candy and food. The items will be used as rewards given to participating students throughout the year. Monetary donations are also requested to help offset the cost of attending a year-end banquet where students will have an opportunity to win a free car from Marquardt of Barrington. Credit card scam warning:

The Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council has issued a warning about a new telephone scam. The agency said the scam artists call people, claim to be from a credit card company's fraud department and give out a badge number. The caller then informs the would-be victim that an unusual purchase as been made on his or her credit card. If the credit card customer denies making the purchase, the caller says a credit will be given but that the customer needs to verify possession of the card by giving out the three numbers on the back of the card. The agency warns not to give out that information, because with it the scam artist can make purchases using the customer's card.
