Classic fairy tales go for a spin at museum

The Schuette-Bierman Farmhouse Museum will offer a free program from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday called Grimm's Grimmest Fairy Tales, 225 E. Elk Grove Blvd. in Elk Grove Village.

This program challenges the popular versions of fairy tales by reinstating the original stories.

For instance, one typical questions would be "What really happened after Sleeping Beauty is awakened by the Prince's kiss?"

This program is recommended for ages 13 and older.

Registration is required.

Choir kids learn in Chicago: Music students from Friendship, Grove and Holmes junior high schools attended the VanderCook College of Music Honor Fest last week in Chicago.

Ten District 59 students were selected to attend the fest, which brought choir students from all across the Chicagoland area and from as far away as California. The students worked with Robert Sinclair, the choir director and professor of music education at VanderCook.

They also attended a concert by VanderCook's band and choir and then performed twice themselves. Each student received a certificate and their schools received a plaque. District 59 student participation in the Music Honor Fest was made possible through a Illinois State Fine Arts grant.
