Nature center needs money, volunteers

Visitors at the Stillman Nature Center in South Barrington last weekend had a special up-close look at the center's falcons, owls and hawks.

This year, the center built its second birds of prey enclosure for birds that are permanently hurt.

The enclosure, called a mew, houses a great horned owl, barn owl and turkey vulture. Center officials plan on housing more birds in the future when its budget allows.

August's storms washed away some of the center's trails and winds brought down trees.

The center, which doesn't receive tax money, is looking for the public's help to deal with the damage. Officials need money and volunteers.

Visitors are encouraged to visit on Sundays. For details, call the center at (847) 428-OWLS(6957).
