Wine tasting for caregivers offers tips on taking care of selves

Vino 100 Wine Shoppe in Mount Prospect will be presenting "First, Take Care of You: 10 Keys to Self-Care for Family Caregivers" at 8 a.m. Tuesday at 110 S. Emerson, followed by a wine tasting.

It will be presented by author and life coach Peter Schroeder. The wine tasting will be hosted by Jennifer Martinez, owner of Vino 100.

Schroeder will explain the 10 keys that family caregivers need to follow to maintain balance in their lives and be best equipped to help their loved one.

Schroeder is the author of "It's Your Movie: Creating the Life You Want," and is a certified master life coach.

Vino 100 is located in downtown Mount Prospect where there's free parking. The wine tasting will immediately follow the 30 minute program for caregivers.

Help fight cancer: Volunteers are needed to help plan the American Cancer Society Relay For Life in Mount Prospect next year.

A committee meeting will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Prospect High School to discuss planning, fundraising and team recruitment efforts currently under way for the event.

Individuals are needed to help organize and recruit teams, secure community support, coordinate event logistics, obtain refreshments and prizes, help with publicity and plan entertainment activities.

Volunteers do not need to be Mount Prospect residents to serve on the committee.

Relay For Life is an overnight event that brings the community together in the fight against cancer. "Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back." is the theme of this year's event which will be held at Prospect High School in May or June.

Don't forget your yard waste: If you have grass clippings, garden debris, twigs, weeds, leaves and brush in Prospect Heights, remember that the last day this year for yard waste pick up is Dec. 14.

Metal containers and biodegradable paper bags must be out by 6 am.

Bags and containers are not to exceed 34 gallons in volume and 50 pounds in weight.

Tree limbs, branches, and brush must be bundled and must not exceed 4 feet in length and 2 feet in diameter.

Tree limbs and logs that are greater than 4 inches in diameter are considered refuse provided they do not weigh over 50 pounds each, and the total amount does not exceed 1 cubic yard.
