Lakemoor Fest promises large fireworks show
One of the largest and most elaborate summer fireworks displays in Lake and McHenry counties will light up the sky on Saturday, Aug. 8, as part of Lakemoor Fest.
"We have a large safety perimeter because the fireworks are shot over the lake from a peninsula," Lakemoor Village Manager David Alarcon said. "The fireworks can be more elaborate because you have that lake buffer."
The festival, which has been around since 1993, started as a small community event to bring residents and neighbors together. This year, organizers expect 30,000 people to attend throughout the weekend.
"For the fireworks, the entire park at times is standing room only," Alarcon said.
This year's schedule includes carnival rides, a fishing derby, food vendors and more. The bands Jak Tripper, Highway G, Sealed with a Kiss, and the Mustangs will perform throughout the weekend.
"There will be great music and a great atmosphere overall," Alarcon said.
Lakemoor Fest will be held at Morrison Park, 233 Rand Road, Friday, Aug. 7, through Sunday, Aug. 9.
Admission is free and the hours of operation are 4-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7; 9 a.m. to midnight Saturday, Aug. 8; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9.
