Documentary on historic World War II Maine Township warplane premiers May 2
The premier of a student-produced documentary on the World War II warplane named in honor of Maine Township students who raised $551,000 in war bonds in only two weeks will be shown next month in Park Ridge.
"Faster and Higher, That's the Maine Flyer," a documentary produced by about 20 current and former Maine East and South students, will be screened at 4 p.m. May 2, at the Park Ridge Nonprofit Center, 720 Garden St. The documentary includes interviews with former Maine students who helped with the war bond drive in December 1944.
A C-54 Skymaster assembled at the Douglas Aircraft Co. factory - on the site of what is now O'Hare International Airport - was dedicated in February 1945 as the "Maine Flyer" in recognition of the students.
A question-and-answer session with alumni and students will be held after the screening.
