Barrington to break ground on White House renovation next week
Organizers will break ground on the $5 million renovation project at the Barrington White House during a ceremony at noon on Tuesday, July 22, at the 116-year-old building, located at 145 W. Main St.
According to a release from the village, work to convert the historic building into a cultural and community center will begin soon after the ceremony. The work is scheduled to be completed in time for Barrington's sesquicentennial celebration next summer.
The village board has yet to approve the project. Beth Raseman, the White House project coordinator, said two weeks ago that the village board would vote whether to accept the financing plan when 80 percent of the project funds have been raised from donors and through grants.
The village board is expected to take up the issue at their July 21 meeting.
