Chicago Symphony opens concert series at Morton Arboretum
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra opened its three-night concert series Thursday at The Morton Arboretum in Lisle with "A Summer Night on the Red Carpet."
The orchestra was scheduled to perform famous film scores, including themes from "The Godfather," "The Little Mermaid" and "Lawrence of Arabia."
The series will continue Friday night with a performance focusing on Tchaikovsky's "Romeo and Juliet" and Beethoven's "Symphony No. 7." Saturday's concert will feature Brahm's "Hungarian Dances" and Dvorak's "New World Symphony."
Tickets are $40 and still available for Friday and Saturday. There is an additional $10 fee for parking.
Suburban high school music ensembles will pe rform a preconcert program from 2:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The groups performing are the Fremd High School string quartet; Naperville Central High School woodwind quintet; Lincoln Way High School string quartet; Oswego High School woodwind quintet and saxophone quartet; Batavia High School string duet; Glenbard South High School string quartet; Neuqua Valley High School string quartet; and Wauconda High School clarinet quintet.
