Wauconda officials hire company to overhaul village's official website

Wauconda officials have hired a company to overhaul the village's official website.

A Kansas company called CivicPlus will handle the task. Officials hope the new site will be ready in five months.

The site is at wauconda.org.

Village trustees approved a four-year contract with the firm Tuesday. Annual renewal is possible after the contract expires, said Alise Homola, an executive administrative assistant at village hall.

The firm will be paid $20,815 for the work. An annual fee of $4,043 will begin the second year, Homola said.

Calendars, online forms, charts and a lot of photos of the village could appear on the website, CivicPlus' Bryan Hahlbeck said during a presentation to the village board's marketing committee last month. Links to videos of board meetings also could be posted, officials said.

Officials had considered working with a subsidiary of CivicPlus, an operation called CivicReady, to develop an emergency notification system for the village. However, local police and fire officials have been unable to thoroughly research the proposed system to ensure it meets the village's needs, so that part of the project was put on hold Tuesday.

Under the CivicReady proposal, residents could sign up for notifications about weather emergencies, information about active-shooter crises and other important announcements.
