19-year-old faces charges in death of Cedar Lake student
CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) - Charges have been filed against a 19-year-old man accused in the stabbing death of a Cedar Lake high school senior.
The Times of Munster (http://bit.ly/1BWWlJ4 ) reports Tyler McAfee of Lansing, Illinois, faces murder and aggravated battery charges. He was being held without bond in the Lake County Jail as of Friday.
Authorities say 17-year-old Alton Bradley died after he was stabbed in the chest Tuesday night. They say 18-year-old Michael Smolek was also wounded in the attack.
Police say the incident happened after McAfee rear-ended a car he was tailgating. The driver of the car had stopped to talk with Bradley and Smolek, who were walking Smolek's dog.
According to police, McAfee got out of his car and charged at Smolek, wounding him in the chest with a knife.
Authorities say McAfee claims he wielded the knife in self-defense after three people pulled him from his car and attacked him.
