Fire damages garage in Lombard

A fire in the garage of a Lombard home caused no injuries over the weekend, authorities said.

The owner of the home on the 800 block of South Charlotte Avenue called 911 after hearing a loud noise and found smoke coming from the garage. Firefighters responded to a report of a garage on fire at about 10:09 p.m. Saturday.

The first crew arrived at the home about five minutes later and found heavy smoke coming from the detached garage, according to a village news release. Firefighters used hose lines to combat the blaze and deemed it under control within 10 minutes. Crews were able to prevent flame damage from spreading beyond the garage, the release stated.

There were no reported injuries to residents or firefighters. But the fire left an estimated $70,000 in damages. The Lombard Fire Investigations Unit is currently investigating its cause.
