Spieth will headline John Deere Classic field in July

The John Deere Classic is getting one of its most popular champions back when Illinois’ only annual PGA Tour stop returns to TPC Deere Run July 4-7.

Jordan Spieth, who won the tournament twice in playoffs, is returning for the first time since 2015.

Spieth, who has won three of golf’s major championships, won his first PGA Tour title at the JDC in 2013. Then 19, he holed a bunker shot on the last hole of regulation play and then took the title in a playoff with Zach Johnson and David Hearn. That made Spieth the youngest PGA Tour winner since 1931.

After finishing tied for seventh in his title defense in 2014, Spieth won again the following year by beating Tom Gillis in another playoff. Spieth is the third top star making a rare JDC appearance this year, following the entries of Jason Day and Patrick Cantlay.
