Sign up for Lombard’s Historic House Bike Tour

The Lombard Historical Society and Retro Glow Cycles are hosting the “Historic House Bike Tours of Lombard” on Saturday, June 29, with two departure times starting at 10 a.m. and noon.

Bicyclists should meet at the Carriage House at 23 W. Maple St. 15 minutes before their selected departure time. This experience is best for adults and children, ages 7 or older.

The guided tour will feature select historic homes (outside only) that are recognized for their age (over 100 years old), architectural integrity and/or prominent historic residents.

Little known facts and photos about the houses have been gleaned from the Lombard Historical Society archives to share with participants.

The one-hour rides will include some well-known houses and some surprises that are more off-the-beaten-path, including a magnetic home to a home that rolled down the street.

Riders will meet at the Carriage House at 23 W. Maple St. in Lombard. Arrive at least 15 minutes early to check in. Ride marshals will accompany the riders for safety. Ages 7 or older are welcome.

Tickets are $15 or $5 for children. Tickets are available only on the historical society website, lombardhistory.org. Free parking is available in the lot adjacent to the Lombard Historical Society at 23 W. Maple St.

Retro Glow Cycles enjoys working with the community to promote the art and history of cycling. Working with the historical society, the bike shop celebrated its 50th anniversary with interactive exhibits and helped create the historical society’s pop-up exhibit “The Ever-Changing Bicycle & Its Allure.”

During the winter, Retro Glow Cycles will be restoring some of Jack Minster’s parade bikes. The goal is to bring these cycling works of art back to life to ride in the Lilac Parade once again.

The Lombard Historical Society endeavors to cultivate a deep appreciation and comprehension of the community's rich history. Delve into the past through interactive exhibitions and educational programming, and gain insights from the collections. The historical society is committed to the preservation, interpretation, and celebration of Lombard's past, inspiring a vibrant and inclusive future.

The Lombard Historical Society operates the Victorian Cottage Museum, the Carriage House, and the society’s archives at 23 W.
