Historic Liberty Tree dedicated in Batavia for the SAR/DAR ‘America 250’ Celebration

In a ceremony marked by patriotism and a sense of historical reverence, the first Liberty Tree for the SAR/DAR “America 250” celebration in Illinois was dedicated at the Flag Day Monument in Batavia.

This June 15 event was sponsored by the Fox Valley Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Elias Kent Kane Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The dedication ceremony was a testament to the collaborative spirit between local organizations and the city government. Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke highlighted this partnership in his speech, noting the city’s cooperation with the Fox Valley SAR Chapter in planting a Liberty Tree at the Flag Day Monument.

Schielke emphasized the importance of preserving and celebrating the nation’s history, especially as the country approaches its 250th anniversary.

Marria Blinn, chair of the Flag of the United States Committee of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, made a special presentation. In a heartfelt gesture of appreciation, she presented flags flown over the NSDAR headquarters in Washington, D.C., to Mayor Schielke and Marty Callahan, Fox Valley SAR vice president, and Flag Day Monument board member. These flags were a token of gratitude for their significant contributions to the monument and the Liberty Tree dedication.

Matt Clark, president of the Fox Valley SAR Chapter, was the master of ceremonies. DeeAnn Carlson, president of the Elias Kent Kane DAR Chapter, and Marty Callahan addressed the gathering. Both speakers underscored the importance of the Liberty Tree as a symbol of freedom and resilience during the Revolutionary War and the role of such commemorations in keeping the spirit of the Revolution alive.

The Liberty Tree, a significant symbol during the Revolutionary War, represents the values of liberty and independence that the early American patriots fought for. Its dedication at the Flag Day Monument is a fitting tribute to these ideals, especially as the nation prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary.

The event was well-attended by members of the Fox Valley SAR, DAR Chapters Elias Kent Kane, General John Stark, Isle a la Cache, local citizens, and history enthusiasts.
