Youth mission team from Wheaton church helps out on reservation

Youth and adult leaders from Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton recently traveled to Lake Traverse Reservation in South Dakota to volunteer.

They weeded, planted flowers and vegetables, painted, helped organize a summer camp and played Bingo at a nursing home. The mission team also learned about the Dakota people’s culture and had some free time to appreciate the beauty of Lake Traverse and nearby parks.

Gary United Methodist Church at 224 N. Main St. offers 9 a.m. summer Sunday worship, complete with Kids’ Church and nursery care, plus livestreaming and recorded worship at garychurch.org. At 10 a.m., you can enjoy a coffee hour called “Special Blend.” The church will resume its 10 a.m. Sunday school hour for all ages and 11 a.m. worship on Sept. 8. With deep roots in the community since 1853, the church has vibrant music, kids, youth and adult ministries, plus opportunities for local, national and global missions.
