Scarecrow contest application deadline has been extended

The St. Charles Business Alliance has extended the deadline entry for the 2023 Scarecrow Contest at St. Charles Scarecrow Weekend.

The annual festival, sponsored by St. Charles Chrysler Dodge Jeep and Ram, takes place in downtown St. Charles from Friday to Sunday, Oct. 6-8.

Businesses, clubs, not-for-profits and individuals who are interested in entering a scarecrow in the Scarecrow Contest may submit a completed application by Friday, Sept. 22.

The entry form can be found and filled out online, as well as a printable pdf application at scarecrowfest.com/scarecrowcontestapplication.

Individuals who wish to print out the Scarecrow Contest application can mail the form to the St. Charles Business Alliance at 2 E. Main St., St. Charles, IL 60174. It is free to enter into the Scarecrow Contest.

The categories for the Scarecrow Contest, sponsored by AAA, are as follows:

• Mega or Mechanical Category - Open to all

• Clubs, Not-For-Profit, Schools Category - Open to all clubs, not-for-profits, and schools.

• Individual Category - Open to all individuals & families not affiliated with a business or organization.

• Business Category - Open to all businesses.

Participants are encouraged to enter the Mega or Mechanical Category, where first-place winners will receive $500, second place $350, and third place $250.

In order for the scarecrow to be considered Mechanical, which is the only category that is provided with electricity and allows moving parts, electricity must be the only means of mechanization.

To be considered a Mega, the scarecrow must make an impact with a large 8 x 8 display. It does not need to have power or any moving parts.

For the business category; clubs, not-for-profit, and schools category; and individual category: first place will receive $200, second place $150, and third place $100.
