Police: Geneva man faces attempted murder charge after domestic dispute
A Geneva man accused of attacking his girlfriend is being held in the Kane County jail, officials said Friday.
Craig G. Chaney, 45, appeared in bond court Friday and is charged with one count each of attempted murder and aggravated domestic battery, and two counts of domestic battery in connection to a domestic dispute Thursday. A Kane County judge set Chaney's bond at $500,000.
Geneva police responded around d 6:40 p.m. Thursday to Chaney's residence in the 100 block of Syril Drive.
Authorities say Chaney was involved in a dispute with his girlfriend that became physical and, during the fight, Chaney pinned down his girlfriend and put his hands around her neck twice.
The girlfriend was able to free herself after stabbing Chaney in the arm with a pair of scissors, authorities said.
Police said another household member, who made the initial call to police, corroborated the girlfriend's account of events.
Chaney remains in the Kane County jail. His next court date is Jan. 4.
