Prospect Heights man charged with sexually abusing two girls

A 32-year-old Prospect Heights man who prosecutors say is on bail on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge faces new charges he sexually abused two girls.

David Alvarez-Macedo is charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, attempted aggravated criminal sexual abuse and attempted predatory criminal sexual abuse. He was ordered held on a total bail of $200,000 Thursday.

Cook County Judge Ellen Mandeltort ordered Alvarez-Macedo submit to electronic monitoring and GPS. Additionally, she ordered he have no contact with anyone younger than 18.

If convicted of the most serious charge, he could face up to 12 years in prison.

According to prosecutors, Alvarez-Macedo sexually abused both girls early Sunday. Later that day, both girls told an adult, who contacted Prospect Heights police, said Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Nicole Murphy. During the investigation, both girls told authorities the defendant had abused or attempted to abuse them sometime between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 2020, Murphy said.

When police arrived at his workplace to arrest him, Alvarez-Macedo attempted to flee, Murphy said.

He next appears in court June 11.
