Kane County System of Care offers free webinar on ADHD

On Wednesday, Nov. 29, the Kane County System of Care, a grant-funded initiative of the Kane County Health Department, invites mental health clinicians, community leaders, parents, and professionals to attend a free, informative webinar titled "ADHD Perspectives: Pediatrician and Mental Health Therapist." It will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Zoom.

This educational event brings together experts from the fields of pediatrics and mental health to provide a comprehensive understanding of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and how to best support children affected by this condition.

The neurodevelopmental disorder impacts millions of children and their families. The disorder is often characterized by symptoms including inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity, and it can significantly affect a child's academic, social and emotional well-being. However,

with the right knowledge and support, children with ADHD can thrive.

The webinar aims to provide an in-depth approach to ADHD by combining the perspectives of two key professionals:

• Rupal Upadhyay, M.D. - Board-certified pediatrician with 20 years specializing in neurodevelopmental disorders and child health will offer insights into the medical and diagnostic aspects of ADHD, diagnostic criteria, and the various treatment options available. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of how pediatricians can play a crucial role in early diagnosis and ongoing care.

• Erin Carlson, LCSW - Certified synergetic play therapist and licensed clinical professional counselor specializing in children, teens and young adults dealing with trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and self-harm will delve into the psychological and behavioral aspects of ADHD, addressing the challenges children and their families face, as well as effective therapeutic strategies and coping mechanisms to help families better manage ADHD.

"We're excited to bring these two expert perspectives together to help parents, educators, and professionals gain a comprehensive understanding of ADHD," said Michael Isaacson, executive director of the Kane County Health Department. "This webinar will be an invaluable resource for anyone who interacts with children and adolescents, providing them with the knowledge and tools they need to support those with ADHD effectively."

Interpretation to Spanish and professional CEUs are available at each event.
