Hoffman Estates' hard work pays off again
Give the Hoffman Estates girls basketball team a little extra work, and the Hawks won't complain.
For the third time this season, coach Mike Koester's squad won in overtime, this time edging visiting Dundee-Crown 57-55 on Tuesday night in nonconference play.
Junior guard Monraia Wilson connected for a game-high 26 points, making 10 of 13 free throws as Hoffman improved to 9-10 heading into Wednesday's nonconference game at Niles North in Skokie.
Other top scorers for Hoffman were Mynk Richardson-Clerk (10 points), Tayler Wiliams (9) and Erin Hanson (6).
Jennifer Nailor and Kate Mongold also made it into the scoring column for the Hawks, who received three 3-pointers from Williams.
Hoffman's other overtime wins were against Prospect and Mundelein.
Rolling Meadow 73, Niles West 36: Junior guard Kyra Spiwak scored a game-high 17 points with 4 assists as host Meadows improved to 13-6 with the nonconference win.
Morgan Campagna added 15 points and 6 rebounds for the Mustangs while Hannah Mickey had 11 points and 5 rebounds. Teammate Katherine Nolan pulled down 9 rebounds with her 4 points.
Melissa Spiwak (7 points, 4 assists), Megan King (6 points), Kelsey Nallon and Campagna each hit 3-pointers for Meadows, which hosts Hersey on Friday.
"We received great contributions from all 11 of our kids." said Meadows coach Ryan Kirkorsky. "Hannah Mickey was solid on both ends of the floor."
Wheeling 40, Glenbrook North 24: Melissa Claver scored a game-high 17 points as the host Wildcats (9-10) held the Spartans to single-digit scoring in each quarter to claim a nonconference victory.
Junior guard Coco Yoshino made four 3s and finished with 12 points for Wheeling, and Michelle Vasey contributed 6 points.
