Elgin woman sentenced to jail, probation in gas station robbery
An Elgin woman, who spent nearly two months in jail, received 2½ years probation for robbing an Elgin gas station in March, according to Kane County court records.
Shannon L. Aasen, 42, of the 0-99 block of South Crystal Street, Elgin, waived her preliminary court hearing this week and pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery/indicating a firearm, records show.
In addition to probation, which runs through October 2018, Aasen also must pay $2,290 in fines and court costs in accordance with the guilty plea accepted Thursday by Judge James Hallock.
Aasen served 52 days at the Kane County jail while the case was pending. She was released Thursday, according to the Kane County sheriff's office, and can be resentenced up to 15 years in prison if she violates probation.
According to Elgin police, Aasen entered the McDonald's/BP gas station on the 800 block of St. Charles Road just before 3 a.m. March 15 with her hand in her pocket, implying she had a gun. The woman took a small amount of cash and ran. Officers searched the area and found Aasen a short time later and the gas station clerk identified Aasen.
Aasen didn't have any previous criminal arrests in Kane County, records show.
