Short rest, same result for York
Eighteen hours later, York's boys basketball team picked up right where it left off.
The Dukes surged to a big early lead and cruised to Saturday's 38-22 victory over Naperville North in the Crohn's and Colitis Awareness Shootout at Wheaton Warrenville South.
After bursting to a 13-0 lead seven minutes into the game, York (5-1) watched the Huskies (2-4) shrink the deficit to single digits several times. The Dukes, though, flashed just enough offense to keep their distance.
"It's not a good feeling when you come out down in the first quarter, so coming out hard and getting a big lead was very important," said Dukes senior Tim Glavan, whose team pulled out a 51-41 overtime victory over Lyons Twp. on Friday. "It set the tone for the rest of the game."
For the second straight day Naperville North struggled out of the tip. A 4-point third quarter didn't help as the margin grew to 16 points but, on the bright side, it was a much better defensive effort from the Huskies after Friday's 57-33 loss to Waubonsie Valley.
Sophomore Nick Hesch led York with 12 points and 5 rebounds, while Nate Shockey scored 11 points. Grant Johnson, who grabbed 8 rebounds, and Zeke Williams scored 7 points apiece for the Huskies.
"These things happen, and it's a matter of how we'll respond," said Naperville North coach Gene Nolan. "And I know how they're going to respond. They can't wait for practice on Monday."
