South Elgin man charged in two Geneva traffic disputes

A South Elgin man is charged with battery in two separate traffic disputes in Geneva.

Elvin L. Adams Jr., 24, of the 800 block of West Spring Street, was arrested on Jan. 19 by Geneva police.

He is charged with felony aggravated battery in connection with a December incident and local ordinance battery in connection with an incident this month, according to police reports.

The first incident happened around 8:44 p.m. Dec. 29 while Adams was driving south on Randall Road between St. Charles and Geneva. Police said Adams repeatedly braked in front of a woman's car and almost ran her off the road.

When the two got to a traffic light at Williamsburg Avenue in Geneva, the woman pulled around Adams' car, blocked him, got out of her vehicle and shouted expletives at him. Police say Adams got out of his car, hit the woman in the face and knocked her down.

The woman told authorities that Adams then hit her in the head, shoulder and buttocks, police said. She suffered bruises, a chipped front tooth, and scrapes to an arm and elbow.

The felony charge was approved, and an arrest warrant was issued.

Then on Jan. 19, a man reported that a fast-moving vehicle passed him, swerved into his lane and almost hit his car while he was heading north on Randall near North Aurora. The vehicle continued changing lanes.

When the vehicle was stopped in a left-turn lane in Geneva, the man rolled down his window and yelled at the other driver, "Why do you have to drive like an idiot?" The other driver was Adams.

Adams then threw a bottle of cologne at the victim, hitting him in the forehead, according to a police report.

The man followed Adams to a nearby store, watched him enter and called the police. Adams was arrested in the store.

Adams is being held on $15,000 bail at the Kane County jail. He also is wanted on warrants in McHenry and DuPage counties in retail and identity theft cases, according to police reports.
