Local Scouting volunteers to be honored at Three Fires Council recognition dinner

Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America will be hosting its annual Council Recognition Dinner on Tuesday, June 20, at Blackberry Farm in Aurora.

This event celebrates and honors dedicated and faithful Scouting volunteers on a council level with the Silver Beaver Award.

The Silver Beaver Award is the highest honor a local council can bestow; it recognizes distinguished service to youth in the Boy Scouts of America and service to one's community.

Recipients are chosen not only for their dedication to Scouting, but for their service to our community as a whole.

The Silver Beaver Award recipients to be honored are as follows: Dan Barreiro of Aurora, Bryan Bond of Wheaton, Edward Bronson of Naperville, Edward Hollendoner of Sycamore, Marcus Nenia of Cortland, Paige Samdal of Warrenville, Sean Walters of DeKalb, Stefan Wandtke of Lisle, and Andrea Welch of Naperville.

This year, Three Fires Council has the privilege of not only recognizing nine Silver Beaver Award recipients, but will also be celebrating its previous Council President, Daniel J. Zedan, as he receives the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award.

The Distinguished Eagle Scout Award was established in 1969 by the National Eagle Scout Association to recognize Eagle Scouts who achieve extraordinary national-level recognition, fame, or eminence within their profession and/or service to the nation and have a strong record of voluntary service to their community. It is the highest honor an Eagle Scout can achieve.

Zedan began his Scouting journey in the Detroit Area Council and has been a registered Scouting volunteer for 61 years, having served in seven different councils. He has been a member of the Three Fires Council Executive Board since 2004 serving as the Council Commissioner, Wood Badge Course Director and President within his time with on the board. He is the owner and President of Nature's Finest Foods, Ltd., Batavia, and the Vice President of Navarro Pecan Company in Corsicana, Texas.

Three Fires Council is headquartered in St. Charles, Illinois, and was formed in 1925. It serves more than 7,000 youth throughout Kane, DuPage, Kendall, DeKalb, and parts of Will and Cook counties. Local communities are divided into three volunteer-led districts. Three Fires Council also boasts Camp Big Timber (Elgin, Illinois).
