Spotlight: Theater Wit premieres dark domestic dramedy 'Household Spirits'

World premiere

Theater Wit premieres "Household Spirits," a dark domestic dramedy by Chicago playwright Mia McCullough about a family coping with mental illness, alcoholism and spirits. Eileen Tull directs the play, which had a reading at Steppenwolf Theatre and was featured as part of Goodman Theatre's New Stages Festival.

Sleepless nights

Insomnia is the least of Elaine's worries after she notices a dead body in the window of an abandoned apartment across from her luxury townhouse in "Night Watch," a thriller by Lucille Fletcher. Georgette Verdin directs Raven Theatre's revival, which stars Aila Ayilam Peck as Elaine.

Halloween bingo

The interactive "Holy Ghost Bingo: God, Goblins & Games" returns to the Greenhouse Theater Center for a brief run. Nancy Greco, Liz Cloud and creator Vicki Quade alternate in the role of former nun Mary Margaret O'Brien, who calls bingo while chatting about Halloween traditions, scary movies, costumes and candy.

Live audio play

A Theater in the Dark presents an immersive, staged reading of Evanston playwright Rick Kinnebrew's original audio play "The White City: An Audible Exhibition on H.H. Holmes, Murderer," which premiered online earlier this year. Ethan Carlson reprises his role from the audio production as H.H. Holmes and Keenan Odenkirk plays his doomed business partner, Ben Pitezel.

Combo play

On its website, Refracted Theatre Company describes its production of Dave Harris' dark comedy "Tambo & Bones" as part clown show, part rap concert and party history play. Mikael Burke directs the production, which stars William Anthony Sebastian Rose II as Tambo and Patrick Newson Jr. as Bones as men who may be trapped in a minstrel show.

Broadway-bound tuner

Broadway in Chicago presents "A Wonderful World," the Broadway-bound bio-musical about jazz legend Louis Armstrong, as told from the perspective of the women in his life. James Monroe Iglehart stars as Armstrong in the bio-tuner, whose score includes such classics as "When You're Smiling" and "When the Saints Go Marching In," among others.
