Aurora Methodists accepting donations for Maui wildfire relief

Wesley United Methodist Church in Aurora is accepting donations for the people of Maui, Hawaii, experiencing the devastating results of wildfires.

A church statement said, "To donate to Maui wildfire relief, or support a wide range of responses to disasters across the U.S., bring or mail a check with UMCOR Hawaii written in the memo line to Wesley UMC, 14 N. May St., Aurora, IL 60506."

Wind-driven wildfires on Maui have prompted evacuations and caused loss of life and widespread damage.

United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is coordinating with the UMC California-Pacific Annual Conference to provide a solidarity grant for emergency supplies.

UMCOR and its partners are responding to disasters across the globe every day. UMCOR supports programs that fight hunger and poverty, assist the displaced, and respond to disasters.

UMCOR provides humanitarian relief and disaster response in the U.S. and internationally.

Its efforts are targeted in places where natural disasters, war, or conflict have done so much damage that communities are unable to recover on their own.

In addition, UMCOR helps communities in the United States and abroad prepare for emergencies and to reduce the risk of disasters through a roster of training programs. It also assists in global development work.

Specific programs address issues of health, sanitation, poverty, sustainable agriculture, nutrition, and food security. Many development problems are interrelated, so UMCOR uses integrated solutions to address their root causes. UMCOR seeks to empower local hospitals, schools, churches and other stakeholders by enhancing their capacity to address such issues.
