Algonquin man faces federal drug charges

A 34-year-old Algonquin man is facing federal drug charges after being swept up in a multijurisdictional operation targeting heroin, cocaine and fentanyl dealers in the Chicago area.

Darius Franklin is one of 50 people charged in connection with what federal investigators dubbed "Operation Fat Chance."

Court records said that federal agents searched Franklin's house and found more than two kilograms of heroin and drug-packing materials during the search.

Franklin is accused of supplying heroin to a 26-year-old dealer named Willie Kelley of Chicago, who prosecutors said controlled drug sales at the intersection of Lexington Street and Sacramento Avenue in Chicago's East Garfield Park neighborhood.

During the duration of the operation, agents seized more than three kilograms of heroin, more than a kilogram of cocaine and 230 grams of fentanyl as well as eight firearms, including a semi-automatic rifle with a "drum barrel" magazine. Authorities also seized more than $100,000 in cash.
