System, workers failed AJ

Every time I read about the death of poor little AJ Freund, it brings me to tears. At the time of his death, I wrote to the mayor and the governor, it affected me so badly. Now, it has come up again and I feel the same way.

You repeatedly read how overloaded the DCFS is and nothing on that score ever changes year after year. As for the DCFS supervisors assigned to his case, the monumental evidence that was apparent in his home situation and the many bruises AJ had, not to mention his drug-using parents, this should have alarmed his caseworkers to remove him from that home immediately.

What were his caseworkers thinking? They were too busy? Their workload was heavy? These are the lives of children they are dealing with. For that reason I have no sympathy for these supervisors who failed miserably at what they do.
