McHenry County College to offer class on total solar eclipse viewing

For the first time in almost 30 years, a total solar eclipse will be visible in the U.S. Learn how you can enjoy the viewing with "A Solar Eclipse is Coming!" class offered by McHenry County College's Continuing Education Department from 1 to 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, in the Luecht Conference Center.

The total solar eclipse will be visible from the continental United States in a 71-mile wide path stretching from Oregon to South Carolina. From the Chicago area, about 85 percent of the sun will be covered by the moon.

Michelle Nichols, a longtime staff member at the Adler Planetarium, will discuss the upcoming solar eclipse that takes place on Aug. 21 and share her knowledge of these celestial events and how people can view it safely. She will also provide information on the next solar eclipse that will happen in 2024.

Cost is $15 per person. Use course code NRE S56 001 when registering.
