Aurora's Faith Lutheran Church joins in mission trip to Uganda

With stories, video and African refreshments, members of Faith Lutheran Church in Aurora reported on a June mission trip to Uganda, East Africa, on Sunday, July 9.

The reports took place during the 8 and 9:30 a.m. services.

Faith's seven-member team left June 1 and returned June 13 after serving at Watoto Children and Women's Ministries in the East African city of Kampala, Uganda.

Watoto, a Faith ministry partner, aids women and children in Uganda and South Sudan. Through housing, education, medical care, and sports academies, Watoto seeks to rescue orphaned and abandoned babies and give them a bright future.

The Faith team's focus was building and renovating homes. Participants with additional skill sets and experience served in medical clinics, sports academies, and schools.

The Rev. Rob Douglas, Faith pastor and project leader, introduced team members during Sunday worship. Expressing appreciation for the congregation's prayers and financial support, he said he hopes to continue fostering the relationship with Watoto.

Offering reflections in addition to Pastor Douglas were team members Katie Douglas, Taylor Scott and Molly and Kerry Clemm. Other team members were Ethan Brauer, Lilly Clemm and Shiela Scott, all Aurorans.

At a post-worship reception, team members shared Ugandan coffee and rolex, a native dish combining eggs and vegetables in a tortilla-like flatbread.

A display of native goods included a handmade cross, flute, dolls and coffee beans.

The team attempted to provide daily video updates to keep the congregation informed about their work in Watoto.

The church tentatively plans to return to Watoto next summer for another service visit.

Located at 3000 Liberty St. in Aurora, Faith holds a traditional Sunday service at 8 a.m. and a blended service at 9:30 a.m.
