Toews remains in concussion protocol

Jonathan Toews, Jujhar Khaira and Riley Stillman did not practice Tuesday with the Blackhawks at Fifth Third Arena as the team prepared to open the second half of the season Wednesday at Edmonton.

Forwards Tyler Johnson and Reese Johnson and goalie Kevin Lankinen did practice as they continue to work their way back from injuries. Both Johnsons could return by late February or early March, according to interim coach Derek King.

Toews remains in concussion protocol and there is no timetable for his return.

"I know he's been around a little bit," King said. "Obviously we miss him. We miss him in our lineup, we miss him on the bench, we miss him in the locker room. That's the type of leader he is. So hopefully he's back sooner than later."

King said Toews has been doing "a little exercise."

Toews has 4 goals and 15 assists in 43 games this season.
