Harper basketball teams prep for postseason

The Harper College women's basketball team, seeded sixth in the NJCAA Division III, Region IV women's basketball tournament, begins its postseason Tuesday.

Harper (4-23) will travel to Milwaukee Area Technical College for a contest against No. 3 seed Joliet Junior College. The Wolves won both games against the Hawks season.

The winner advances to meet the nation's fifth-ranked team, second-seeded Madison Area Technical College.

Rock Valley College earned the top seed in the regional. The Golden Eagles are ranked No. 4 nationally.

• Fresh off a 61-47 victory over Madison Area Technical College (10-18) in Wisconsin on Saturday, the Harper College men's basketball program is also getting ready for the postseason.

The sixth-seeded Hawks (11-19) have a 7:30 p.m. Wednesday matchup in the NJCAA Division III, Region IV tournament at No. 3 seed Joliet Junior College (21-9).

Joliet won twice against Harper in the regular season.

The winner advances to play against regional host Milwaukee Area Technical College (23-6) in a semifinal Friday. The regional title game is at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The Hawks are led by sophomore guards Marcus Gatlin and Allias Burnett. Gatlin had 23 points and 10 rebounds against Madison, while Burnett contributed 18 points and 4 rebounds.

Rock Valley, which earned the No. 1 regional seed, awaits the winner of the Wednesday quarterfinal between No. 4 seed College of DuPage (17-11) and No. 5 seed Madison (10-18).
