Cavs trade guard Joe Harris to Magic for 2nd-round pick

CLEVELAND (AP) - The Cavaliers traded guard Joe Harris to the Orlando Magic in a move designed to save money.

The Cavs will receive a second-round pick in 2017 in exchange for Harris, a second-round selection in 2014. Earlier on Tuesday, Harris underwent surgery on his right foot in Indianapolis and is expected to miss two months.

The trade, which also included cash going to Orlando, was inevitable after the Cavs guaranteed Jared Cunningham's contract for the remainder of this season.

By moving Harris, the Cavs can save nearly $3 million in payroll and luxury taxes and will open up a roster spot. He appeared in five games this season for Cleveland and 10 with the Canton Charge, Cleveland's NBA Development League franchise.

The Magic will hold a team option on Harris for next season at slightly less than $1 million. It's possible they may release him.
