Elgin Knights to host 19th annual Chili for Charity

The Elgin Knights of Columbus Council 654 will host its 19th annual Chili for Charity Cook-off and Dinner on Saturday, Feb. 25, at St. Thomas More Education Center gymnasium, 1625 W. Highland Ave., Elgin.

The chili cook-off contest will be from 1 to 3 p.m., with the chili dinner to follow from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Donations are $8 at the door or $7 in advance. For tickets, contact Chris Gulik at (847) 931-9641 or chrisgulik@sbcglobal.net.

All proceeds from this event will go toward the Knights of Columbus to support the catholic grade schools in Elgin, St. Edward Catholic High School, and Elgin Youth Sports. Support your local Knights of Columbus supporting the parish schools. Visit www.kofc654.org.

Participants must provide 6 to 8 quarts of your favorite chili. Doors open at 11 a.m., bring in your heated chili no later than 1 p.m. when judging begins. Utensils, condiments, serving trays and Sterno will be provided. There is a $20 entry free.

The overall best chili first place prize will be $400, second place, $200 and third place, $150.

There also will be prizes for best overall presentation: $90 for first place and $60 for second place.
