Naperville Leadership Conference Inspires Students from 3 High Schools

On Friday, January 27, 85 high school student leaders from three of Naperville's five high schools gathered to learn more about leadership, both from a keynote speaker and from discussions with other students in similar roles in their respective schools.

Detective Richard Wistocki, an internet safety expert from the Naperville Police Department, delivered the keynote speech, "Empowering Our Future Digital Leaders." Detective Wistocki shared best practices in protecting one's online footprint, including responsible use of social media.

In addition to discussing issues raised by Detective Wistocki's talk, students broke into common interest groups, such as Yearbook or Student Council, in which they could share ideas across schools.

One of the teachers who participated in the conference, Naperville North High School English teacher Gino Campise, commented that students enjoy this conference and always bring back helpful, new ideas for their student organizations and clubs.

The 16th annual Leadership Conference was sponsored by the Naperville Park District Youth Ambassadors, an advisory group created by the Park District in 2000 to involve high school student leaders in planning fun, positive activities for their peers.
