Lake County auxiliary deputy injured when suspected drunk driver crashes into squad

An auxiliary Lake County sheriff’s deputy was injured late Wednesday when a suspected drunk driver crashed into his squad car near Lake Forest.

A sheriff’s office spokesman said the auxiliary deputy’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The auxiliary deputy was parked in the road, assisting Lake Forest police divert traffic around the scene of another crash when his vehicle was struck, authorities said.

Photos from the crash scene show the squad car was struck on the rear passenger side with enough force that airbags deployed in the front seats.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the auxiliary deputy’s squad car was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving by Lake Forest police. Charges are pending.
