Indians call up Clevinger to start series opener vs Reds

CINCINNATI (AP) - The Indians called up right-hander Mike Clevinger from Triple-A Columbus to make his major league debut in the first game of a series against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Indians optioned outfielder Tyler Naquin to Columbus to open a roster spot.

Clevinger, 25, was acquired from the Angels in 2014 for right-hander Vinnie Pestano. He was selected as Cleveland's top minor league pitcher last season. Clevinger went 5-0 at Columbus this season with a 3.03 ERA, winning his past four starts. He led the International League in wins.

The Indians opened the week by beating the Reds 15-6 and 13-1 in Cleveland. They complete their intrastate series with two games at Great American Ball Park.
