Keeping Love Ageless-The Carrington at Lincolnwood hosts a speed-dating event for singles ages 70+

They'll primp, preen and psyche themselves up for a romantic adventure. The trending activity will be speed dating, and the seemingly unlikely participants will be men and women ages 70 and older. The Carrington senior living community in Lincolnwood will be hosting two events with the objective of connecting like-minded singles for friendship, companionship and even love. On February 28th, The Carrington will air the film "The Age of Love" and on March 14th will sponsor a speed-dating get-together. Both are open to the senior public with an RSVP.

Speed dating, which is a bit of a misnomer, is not dating so much as a fun social event that provides an easy way for singles to meet each other quickly and in a non-committal way. Participants spend a few moments in one-on-one conversations with potential dates and then decide whether or not they'd care to meet up with that person again.

"Orthodox Rabbi Yaacov Deyo developed the concept as he was seeking ways to keep singles from marrying outside of the faith, and the idea caught on like wildfire," said Stacey Wilkinson, director of sales and marketing at The Carrington. "While the typical speed dating crowd is traditionally younger, involving the golden years demographic makes a great deal of sense."

Wilkinson explained that today's seniors are healthy, active, engaged and looking forward to their futures. Their ideal future, she said, perhaps would include a significant other. "This is a generation that has spent much of their adult lives in long and meaningful partnerships. When those relationships end, there's often still a desire for someone special with whom to spend time, whether it's just companionship and friendship, or a romance. These events that we're holding for the community can help pave the way for a relationship journey. Speed-dating is so popular because it's easy, fun, and eliminates long, potentially awkward or stressful one-on-ones. It works for millennials, and we're finding it works for seniors as well."

The dating events reflect the culture at the newly built senior living community which is addressing the expectations of a generation of seniors looking forward to the next chapter in their lives. "They've worked hard all their lives to prepare for their retirement years, and we're excited to be able to help turn their plans and dreams into their realities. These dating events are one more way of us doing just that," said Wilkinson. "We're proud to be able to provide this opportunity to the greater Lincolnwood community."

The Carrington will be screening The Age of Love, a film following ten 70-90-year olds as they prepare to try out speed-dating. AARP called the film, "eye-opening, thought-provoking…poignant and humorous…ground-breaking." The film will be shown at The Carrington's movie theater on Thursday, February 28th. Complimentary movie-style concessions will be served.

The Carrington will host its speed-dating event for singles ages 70 and over on Thursday, March 14th. Wine and cheese will be served.
