'Stand UP for Veterans' Sept. 24 in Wadsworth

The public is invited to a special "Stand UP for Veterans" event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, to benefit the Midwest Veterans Closet, a coordinated program that serves veterans in a multitude of ways at no charge to the veterans. The event, presented by Jim Onan and Tom Kristof, includes a day of fun and a chance to win a 2017 Chevy Camaro donated, in part, by Rock Chevrolet. Admission is free.

The event, to be held at the Gold Pyramid House, at 37921 Dilleys Road, Wadsworth, will feature house tours. Guests will see a gold chariot, view replicas of Cleopatra and Nefertiti, and tour the great tomb of King Tut when the Onan family opens their home to the public for free tours, all to benefit the Midwest Veterans Closet.

Along with the pyramid tours, other attractions will include Armed Services presentations, a car show, games, live entertainment including three bands, raffles for more than 100 themed items and the Camaro, a silent auction, local craft vendors, food available for purchase and a cash bar.

According to Jim Onan Jr., the inspiration for this event stems from his father.

"My father, Jim Onan Sr., a World War II veteran, planned to build a veterans memorial before his health prevented him from completing his plan. I believe that supporting the Midwest Veterans Closet, where every day is Veterans Day because veterans shop for free, is a perfect fit to honor my father along with all the men and women who served our country and protected our freedoms."

Tom Kristof agreed, saying, "I've witnessed the great work and service the Midwest Veterans Closet provides to veterans and young military families. In fact, I was so inspired by the creativity of their programs, reliability to veterans, and ability to bring folks from so many communities together, my business colleagues and I donated more than $1,300 in new men's and women's clothing to the cause. Help is available every day for our veterans at the Midwest Veterans Closet and this event will hopefully provide much-needed funds to keep this program viable."

Car raffle tickets are $100 each. Purchase a chance to win the 2017 Chevy Camaro in advance at www.MidwestVeteransCloset.org or call Tom Kristof, at (847) 363-8798.
