Hockey player visits Fox Lake library to talk to childen about reading
Chicago Wolves forward Stefan Schneider recently visited Fox Lake Public Library as a part of the “Read to Succeed” program presented by Butternut Bread and Vista Health System.
The “Read to Succeed” program teaches the importance of recreational reading and encourages children to use the many resources that libraries have to offer.
Schneider spoke about the benefits of reading outside the classroom and discussed how it plays an important part in his life as a professional athlete.
Children can win prizes, including Wolves hats, pennants and tickets to upcoming games for setting and achieving reading goals. The players will also dress one lucky child in hockey equipment, as well as raffle off Wolves prizes and sign autographs.
Throughout the season, more than 17,000 children will participate in the program, with Wolves players making appearances at select libraries throughout the Chicago area.
Around 500,000 children and 105 libraries have participated in “Read to Succeed” since the program’s initiation in 1995.
