Bloomingdale mall walk promotes heart health
Adventist GlenOaks Hospital’s “Walk the Mall for Life” event held Saturday at Stratford Square Mall in Bloomingdale gave mall-walkers the chance to test their lung function, gather heart health information and get free screenings for high blood pressure and diabetes.
The hospital’s Heart & Vascular Institute hosted the event during February — American Heart Month — to remind people that making healthy choices can greatly reduce the risk of a heart attack, according to its website.
The event, which lasted from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, also included wellness booths, games and prizes. Walkers who registered beforehand received goody bags, a T-shirt and a chance to win a $500 gift certificate to the mall.
The Bloomingdale Park District, Adventist Lab Partners and Chicago’s Rewind 100.3 FM radio station also sponsored the walk.
