Chicago man charged with shooting death of South Elgin man last month

A 34-year-old Chicago man is charged with first-degree murder for the shooting death last month of a South Elgin man in a Hoffman Estates apartment complex parking lot.

Hoffman Estates police said Joshua C. Hampton was taken into custody last week in Kalamazoo, Michigan, by U.S. Marshals. Police said Hampton was also wanted on a parole violation.

Hampton is accused of shooting 42-year-old Maurice Hill in the face Dec. 16 in an apartment complex parking lot on the 2000 block of Hassell Road. He later died at a nearby hospital.

Hampton is expected to appear for a detention hearing at the Rolling Meadows courthouse at 10 a.m. Friday.

Additional charges are pending.
