Libertyville police investigating series of vehicle thefts, break-ins

Libertyville police are investigating a series of vehicle thefts and related activities that unfolded early Nov. 22.

At 1:34 a.m. that day, police responding to the 1900 block of Lynn Circle for an auto burglary in progress were told two or three people tried to enter a black pickup truck.

The people were gone when police arrived but a Hyundai SUV was found running unoccupied in the middle of the street. The Hyundai had been stolen from the 200 block of North Fourth Street, police said.

According to police, a Lamborghini was stolen from inside the garage of the Lynn Circle home and was among several vehicles that fled from Lake County Sheriff's deputies.

The Lamborghini later was recovered unoccupied in Gurnee.

About 1:50 a.m. the Lake County Sheriff's Office reported an Audi registered to an address on the 1500 block of Parkview Drive in Libertyville was among those, including the Lamborghini, that fled sheriff's deputies. Libertyville police said the Audi had been stolen from the Parkview address. It was recovered unoccupied in North Chicago, police said.

According to Libertyville police, the Hyundai was parked in the alley behind the North Fourth Street home in the late afternoon before being reported stolen. Tools were reported missing from the vehicle, police said.

At about 3 a.m., Libertyville police called to the 200 block of Third Street said found a Mercedes-Benz and a Volvo in the alley with the car doors open. The owner reported nothing missing, police said.

About five minutes later, police determined someone had rummaged through a vehicle parked on the 600 block of Broadway.

Police on Monday said the reports likely are related but declined to speculate on what exactly unfolded. No arrests have been made as an investigation continues.

Libertyville residents should lock their vehicles and removed any valuables, keys or key fobs, police said. Garages and homes also should be locked.
